On proposal from the CIVS, the Prime Minister decides the restitution of a painting by Utrillo

On November 22, the Prime Minister decided the restitution of Eglise de Pont-Saint-Martin (Loire Atlantique), a painting by Maurice Utrillo taken from Stefan Osusky, former Ambassador of Czechoslovakia in Paris from 1921 to 1940. This decision is based on the CIVS recommendation dated 9 July 2021.

RETURN OF 12 WORKS TO THE HEIRS OF ARMAND DORVILLE

On the recommendation of the CIVS, Prime Minister Jean Castex has decided to return to the descendants of the Jewish lawyer Armand Dorville twelve works acquired by the French State in 1942. These artworks are currently in the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the Château de Compiègne.

They have to get a special authorization in order to be taken away out of the national collections. The French Government will present a draft law to effectively implement this decision.

A bill soon to be tabled to return a Klimt painting

On March 15, the Minister of Culture announced the return of “Roses under the Trees”, by Gustav Klimt looted in Austria.
